In my work with others I try to create an atmosphere in which people, especially those with little confidence, can flourish.
I aim to support people in following their ideas through into some kind of visual expression, and this has resulted in creating works such as huge paintings, illustrated anthologies and tiny worlds in bottles.
I have worked with a wide range of people including women in prison, very small children, Gypsies and circuses. I have a particular interest in working with people who find themselves on the margins for one reason or another.
I have worked with Speedwell Nursery School in Bristol for 5 years now. Over this time we have evolved a way of working where there is a shared exploration of ideas between me, the children, staff, parents and carers.
I feel very lucky to have been able to work so closely with a school over such a long period of time and it has helped me to understand how to develop ideas so that creativity is at the heart of learning.
Working with artists provided support in my leadership role, and allowed me to see that schools are not just the concern of teachers and educationalists - other sectors have much to offer and partnerships provide a way forward.
Luci has enabled me to see things in a different way by asking challenging questions
thus helping me to clarify my thinking.

I felt that you spent time working on a very equal relationship with the children and they responded well to this.
It was interesting to see what each child had produced - some lived up to expectations, but others showed a side that hadn't presented itself before.
The children were really proud of their books. I think they really felt part of the whole creative
process, and that can be missing from schools nowadays.

The photograph of me working was taken at Speedwell Nursery School, and the beautiful drawing was done by Coulton in a bookmaking session at Avon County Primary School in Lawrence Weston.
