Bad Maman: a sticky combination of foraging, fundraising and feminism

STOP PRESS  Bad Maman has just raised £1,700 with her online Gin and Jam Sale 2020. This felt very positive as we were not able to have our event this year. The money has gone to support women and girls displaced by the conflict in Yemen.

In response to the 2016 refugee crisis I started Bad Maman, combining foraging, fundraising and feminism to support women and children who are seeking asylum. By making and selling preserves with either foraged or home-grown produce we have raised £10,000 so far, and for the last three years we have donated this to groups working with women and girls in Yemen.

The UN considers Yemen to be the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with four million people at risk of starvation and repeated outbreaks of deadly diseases like cholera.

We make a range of delicious jams, chutneys, aperitifs and liqueurs and all of our goodies are sold in recycled bottles and jars. Amongst our many delights are fruity Creme de Framboise, classic Rhubarb and Ginger Jam and our famous Damson in Distress Gin.

Bad Maman holds several fundraising events each year including the fly-by-night Gin and Jam Pram, and our (almost) famous Gin and Jam Sales where people can buy politically active presents for their nearest and dearest.
